What are Botox and Dysport? (Neuromodulators)

Dysport and Botox, are FDA and Health Canada approved injectable treatments that temporarily relax specific facial muscles.

Muscle contractions lead to wrinkles and fine lines as you express emotions—laugh, smile, frown, or yawn. Neuromodulators target these muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. They utilize a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin to inhibit muscle movements, effectively blocking nerve signals and smoothing out the skin.

These treatments are particularly popular for minimizing frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.

  • Improving Facial Wrinkles: Neuromodulators effectively reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles, including frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases.
  • Preventing Future Wrinkles: By relaxing facial muscles, these injectables help prevent new wrinkles from forming.
  • Brow Lift: Neuromodulators can subtly lift the brows, creating a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
  • Teeth Grinding and Clenching: They are used to alleviate teeth grinding (bruxism) by relaxing the jaw muscles.
  • Smoothing Cobblestone or Golf Ball Chin: Neuromodulators can improve the texture of the chin area.
  • Enhancing Jawline Definition: By relaxing the jaw muscles, they contribute to a more defined jawline.
  • Neck Lines and Crepiness: Neuromodulators can soften neck lines and improve skin texture.
  • Lip Enhancement: They enhance the lip border and add fullness.
  • Correcting Gummy Smile: Neuromodulators can reduce excessive gum exposure during smiling.

What to expect?

  • Consultation: Your journey starts with a personalized consultation with Yona. She’ll discuss your goals, assess your unique facial anatomy, and answer any questions you may have.
  • The Procedure: The actual treatment typically takes less than 30 minutes. Yona will use a tiny needle to inject the neuromodulator into targeted muscles. While most people tolerate the procedure well, a topical anesthetic can be applied for added comfort.
  • Post-Care: Following the treatment, patients are advised to avoid lying down or strenuous exercise for 4 hours, avoid rubbing or massaging treated areas as the botulinum toxin can spread and cause drooping. Yona will provide detailed post-care instructions.
  • Results: You may start to see a subtle softening of wrinkles within a few days, with full results typically achieved within 2 weeks. The results from Dysport and Botox usually last for 3-4 months.
